Press Release: Tara Johnson resigns from LCDP Exec Board to run for 3rd CD house seat

Press Release: Tara Johnson resigns from LCDP Exec Board to run for 3rd CD house seat.

At their monthly Executive Board meeting on Monday, Sep. 4, Tara Johnson resigned from the Executive Board of the La Crosse County Democrats in preparation for her campaign for the 3rd Congressional District House seat. Per the Constitution of the LCDP, no Executive Board member can run for office in a partisan race.

Tara Johnson enters the Democratic primary for Wisconsin District 3 House seat to take on Rep. Derrick Van Orden, a conservative Republican whose conduct has been called into question numerous times during his brief tenure in Congress.

Per William Garcia, chair of the La Crosse County Democratic Party  “Tara’s announcement is very exciting. Tara’s experience working with our community, her deep knowledge of governmental policy and her diligent work ethic will be an excellent addition to the primary field. She has been a valuable member of the board, and has worked to achieve the LCDP goals of a more messaging of Democratic ideals and a stronger relationship with the La Crosse County Community.”

“Tara joins a competitive field of excellent candidates. Candidate interest in the Democratic primary proves the vulnerability of Rep. Van Orden in this district. The quality of our candidates means 3rd CD Democrats will have excellent options as we decide who will take on Van Orden in November of 2024,” says Garcia.

Per the Constitution of the La Crosse County Democratic Party, the county party is neutral in all Democratic primaries and offers service and assistance equally to all primary candidates.
